Welcome to the June 2024 edition of the Sealy Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Newsletter! This month’s issue is packed with exciting updates, insightful reports, and a glimpse into the future projects and plans for our community. Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect:

Farewell and Welcome

The SEDC Board of Directors bid a heartfelt farewell to departing members and welcomed new ones. The May and June meetings were pivotal in discussing and approving significant projects aimed at enhancing Sealy’s infrastructure and community facilities.

Improvement Projects

Several improvement projects are in the spotlight:

  • 125 2nd Street Property: Efforts to repurpose this property for additional parking spaces.
  • Hill Center Parking: An expansion plan to accommodate the growing community needs.
  • Medrano Façade Project: Upgrades including an ADA-compliant bathroom and aesthetic improvements.

Fiscal Year 2025 Budget

In July, the Board will review and discuss the proposed FY’25 budget, which includes allocations for expanded parking projects and park improvements.

J.A. Cryan Park Pond

Plans are underway to enhance the design and capacity of the park pond, including addressing erosion issues and improving path lighting for better accessibility and enjoyment.

Small Business Meet-Up

A successful event in partnership with the Houston Small Business Administration, featuring lenders, business planners, educational institutions, and more, aimed at fostering valuable connections for local businesses.

SEDC Office Expansion

The SEDC’s new meeting space has been refreshed and equipped with modern amenities to facilitate better meetings and project coordination.

Retail Coach Partnership

Ongoing collaboration with The Retail Coach to attract new retailers to Sealy, including updates on recent meetings and upcoming site evaluations.

Website Updates and Texas Sign Improvement

Continuous improvements to the Sealy EDC website to better highlight Sealy’s advantages and strategic location. The iconic Sealy – Texas sign is also undergoing enhancements to boost its appeal.

Staff Training

SEDC Executive Director attended the Texas Economic Development Council’s Basic EDC Training course, gaining essential knowledge and networking opportunities to benefit Sealy’s economic development efforts.

Sales Tax Report

A comprehensive report on local vs. remote sales tax collections, providing valuable insights into Sealy’s economic landscape.

Upcoming Events
