We’re excited to share the latest updates on our ongoing efforts to support economic growth and infrastructure development here in Sealy. Work is progressing well on two key parking projects: the W.E. Hill Community Center parking lot and the Historic Downtown Parking lot on 2nd Street. At the Hill Center, we’re expanding from 68 to 102 spaces to better serve the community. Meanwhile, downtown, we’re adding 26 new spaces to improve access for visitors and local businesses. By running these projects at the same time, we’ve been able to save on costs through shared resources. Despite some weather-related delays, we’re still on schedule, and we expect to complete the Hill Center lot by the end of June.

At our May Board meeting, we approved funding for the build-out of a new Italian Family Restaurant at 224 Fowlkes Street—another exciting addition to Sealy’s dining options. We also gave the go-ahead for a task order with Strand Associates to enhance the pond and lighting at Jacqueline A. Cryan Memorial Park. Early discussions on the fiscal year 2025–2026 budget also began, setting the stage for the upcoming year.

On the financial side, our local economy continues to show strong performance. We’ve collected $1.97 million in sales tax revenue to date, an 18.21% increase from last year. Department stores, restaurants, and fuel sales are leading the way, with local in-person transactions continuing to outperform remote collections.

Looking ahead, we’re focused on downtown revitalization and other high-impact community projects. We recently issued a Request for Qualifications for a Wayfinding Signage Program, and proposals are due by June 10. We’re also working closely with SIKA Corporation on a potential expansion that could bring $100 million in investment and new local jobs. Conversations with other companies about expanding in Sealy are ongoing.

Finally, we’re proud to have supported the City of Sealy in completing the Irene LeBlanc Splash Pad—a great new amenity for local families. We’re also collaborating with Austin County to attract new industries and keeping an eye on state-level legislation that could affect our initiatives. Thank you for your continued support as we work to make Sealy a stronger, more vibrant place to live and do business.
