The Sealy Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) is moving full steam ahead with new initiatives that promise to strengthen local business growth, enhance community spaces, and revitalize Sealy’s historic downtown.

A Budget with Community at the Center

The Sealy City Council has officially approved the SEDC’s budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. At the top of the priority list are Historic Downtown District projects and community-based improvements, ensuring that growth directly benefits residents, local businesses, and visitors alike.

At its recent meeting, the SEDC Board also approved $1,500 in funding for the Classic Choice Project, another step toward supporting local business development.

A New Vision for Downtown Sealy

One of the most exciting announcements is the launch of a downtown revitalization plan. The SEDC is working with a specialized planning firm to develop a three-year strategy that will:

  • Improve storefronts and building facades

  • Attract new businesses and entertainment options

  • Update city ordinances to encourage positive development

To complement these efforts, an engineering study is underway to explore the creation of walkable alleys, connecting and beautifying downtown spaces.

The City Council has also approved a new Wayfinding Program, designed by an urban planning firm, which will guide residents and visitors throughout Sealy with updated signage.

Community involvement will be essential for the success of these projects. Local businesses, stakeholders, and citizens are invited to participate in shaping the future of Sealy’s downtown.

Supporting Business Growth

Sealy EDC is actively collaborating with the City of Sealy, Austin County, and Sealy ISD to incentivize the expansion of SIKA Corporation’s operations, further strengthening Sealy’s position as a hub for economic development.

Community Engagement & Events

Partnerships are also in motion beyond downtown. Sealy EDC, in collaboration with Workforce Solutions and the area Chambers of Commerce from Sealy, Wallis, and Bellville, will host a county-wide Career Fair:

  • 📅 September 16, 2025

  • 📍 American Legion, Sealy, TX

  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This event is open to the public and aims to connect job seekers with employers across the county.

Additionally, plans are underway for improvements at Jacqueline A. Cryan Park, including erosion correction for the pond, lighting along the walking path, and new shade structures—enhancing one of Sealy’s key recreational areas.

Looking Ahead

The Sealy Economic Development Corporation is demonstrating its commitment to both economic opportunity and quality of life. With investments in downtown revitalization, business expansion, and community spaces, Sealy is positioning itself for a vibrant future.
