The Sealy Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) achieved significant milestones in December 2024 as it focused on implementing its Strategic Plan for FY 2025. Central to these efforts were advancements in the Downtown and W.E. Hill Center Parking Projects, which aim to alleviate long-standing parking shortages in the community. Initially estimated at $631,099, the project cost was reduced to $581,099 following a value engineering review with Strand Engineering. Construction, set to commence in January 2025, will add 26 spaces downtown and 68 at the Hill Center, signaling SEDC’s commitment to infrastructure improvement while maintaining cost efficiency.
In partnership with Retail Coach, SEDC worked to attract retail and business development, emphasizing the importance of data in strategic planning. The organization engaged with hotel developers and plans to represent Sealy at the Red River Conference in January 2025. Additionally, the demolition of a building at 125 2nd Street in December created space for new parking, further enhancing downtown accessibility.
The Medrano Project, a multi-business façade improvement initiative at 416 Highway 90 West, received approval from the Sealy City Council. With SEDC’s Historic District and Business Improvement Grant covering up to $11,000 for façade upgrades and ADA compliance, the project exemplifies community revitalization efforts, targeting completion in June 2025.
SEDC’s 2024 achievements included a 13.35% increase in sales tax revenue, completion of plans for new parking areas, funding for a city splash pad and the restoration of Liedertafel Hall, and the installation of six Flock Safety Cameras to enhance public safety. Looking ahead, SEDC aims to implement wayfinding signage, improve Cryan Park with lighting and erosion control, and continue infrastructure enhancements at the industrial park.
A key focus for FY 2025 includes the redevelopment of SEDC’s website to improve access to resources for businesses, investors, and residents. The redesigned site, featuring updated branding, modern aesthetics, and mobile compatibility, aims to position Sealy as a prime location for economic development.
Through collaboration with entities such as the City of Sealy, local educational institutions, and workforce organizations, SEDC continues to foster economic growth. Plans for community panels and industry tours in January 2025 highlight efforts to align educational programs with industry needs, further enhancing workforce pipelines. With its commitment to strategic planning, community enhancement, and public-private partnerships, the Sealy EDC is poised to drive significant economic growth in the coming year.
