Welcome to the Sealy EDC May Newsletter

We are delighted to bring you the May 2024 edition of the Sealy Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) newsletter. This month, we have several exciting updates and developments that highlight our ongoing efforts to enhance the community and support local businesses. Key Highlights:

  1. 125 2nd Street Property and Downtown Parking
    • The City of Sealy has demolished a secondary building at 125 2nd Street to create additional parking spaces downtown. The remaining primary building will be sold and relocated, and we are actively seeking proposals from potential buyers.
  2. Hill Center Parking and Drainage Project
    • Progress on the Hill Center Parking project is temporarily suspended to revise the comprehensive drainage plan for the Mark A. Chapman Park area. This coordinated approach will result in cost savings and improved infrastructure.
  3. Budget Amendments and Strategic Planning
    • During the April 23, 2024, EDC meeting, the Board approved budget amendments aligning with our strategic plan. These amendments support key projects such as the downtown parking expansion and the W.E. Hill Community Center parking project.
  4. Cryan Park Pond Improvements
    • The Jacqueline A. Cryan Park Pond is undergoing evaluation for design and capacity improvements, including plans for lighting enhancements to make the park more enjoyable for walkers.
  5. Sealy Small Business Meet-Up
    • Scheduled for June 18, 2024, in partnership with the Houston Small Business Administration, this event will provide local businesses with valuable resources and opportunities for growth.
  6. Medrano Project
    • The Sealy EDC received a facade improvement application for a multi-business project at 416 HWY 90 West. This project includes significant upgrades and improvements to the property, enhancing its appeal and functionality.
  7. Retail Coach/EDC Partnership
    • The Retail Coach will represent Sealy at the International Council of Shopping Centers Retail Conference in Las Vegas. This partnership aims to attract new retailers and enhance our market outreach.
  8. New Signage Enhancements
    • The SEDC office now features exterior solar lighting for improved visibility and safety during evening hours, thanks to the generous support of our landlord.
  9. Sealy EDC Website Updates
    • We are committed to improving the Sealy EDC website, starting with the “Sealy Advantage Page.” These updates will highlight the benefits of Sealy’s strategic location and enhance our connection to target markets.
  10. Upcoming Local Events
    • Engage with the community through events like the Kids Fish with the Sealy Police Department, the Multicultural Festival at Levine Park, and more throughout May.

As we continue to navigate our strategic plan, we remain committed to transparency, accountability, and progress. Together, we are shaping a future filled with promise and prosperity.
