Welcome to the Sealy EDC April Newsletter

Greetings, Sealy community members!

We are excited to bring you the latest updates and news from the Sealy Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). This month has been bustling with progress, strategic planning, and community-focused initiatives that we are eager to share with you. Below are the highlights from our April 2024 newsletter which you can download for yourself HERE:

Key Highlights:

  1. 125 2nd Street Property and Hill Center Parking
    • The City of Sealy has demolished a secondary building at 125 2nd Street to increase parking. The primary building will be sold and relocated, creating additional spaces downtown.
    • The Hill Center Parking Project is moving forward with plans for a 100-space expansion to meet community growth and park activity needs. This project is set to enhance both parking availability and drainage improvements.
  2. Jacqueline A Cryan Park Pond
    • The pond at Jacqueline A Cryan Park requires attention to address erosion and capacity requirements. The SEDC Board is reviewing a comprehensive plan and cost estimation for these improvements.
  3. Sealy Small Business Forum
    • Scheduled for June, this forum will provide small business owners with valuable resources and programs. Highlights include business advising services, loans and funding assistance, business credit guidance, and government contract opportunities.
  4. Retail Coach/EDC Partnership
    • Collaboration with The Retail Coach continues to identify retail development priorities and provide new market data. This partnership aims to enhance outreach and attract new businesses to Sealy.
  5. SEDC Office Expansion
    • The SEDC has leased additional meeting space at the Sealy Professional Building to better accommodate business and board meetings. Plans include installing internet access and presentation equipment.
  6. Strategic Signage Enhancements
    • New signage for the SEDC office will increase visibility within the community. Additionally, improvements to the Sealy Texas Welcome Sign area are scheduled to commence on May 21, 2024, including solar lighting, xeriscaping, and sign painting.
  7. Workforce Trends
    • Despite a slight decrease in total employment in 2023, sectors such as Professional and Business Services and Education and Health Services have shown significant growth, highlighting the dynamic nature of Austin County’s economy.
  8. Upcoming Local Events
    • Engage with the community through events like the Wade King Memorial Ride & Benefit, Sealy’s Spring Fest, Bluebonnet Master Gardener Annual Plant Sale, Austin County Mixer, Shoot for a Cause, and more throughout April.
